About Us
Our motto is in reference to the golden hand pointing to the sky atop our steeple. If we do point a particular way, it would be by actively helping others. By serving on the Benevolence/Outreach Committee, by the use of our building for community meetings or by the use of our gym for neighborhood group activities. Philippus gives and gives. Of course, by helping others ... we truly help ourselves. Philippus has a powerful prayer chain and social groups for young people, older adults and those ages in between, as well as intergenerational activities for all. Philippus does point the way ... the way to living our lives in service to others and in harmony with our inner self, as we seek to be God's faithful servants.
The religious heritage of the UCC stems from the great traditions of the Protestant Reformation - Lutheran, Calvinist, and Congregational. These traditions were brought to America by Protestants fleeing persecution in Europe. In 1957 the Evangelical and Reformed Church merged with the Congregational and Christian Churches to form the United Church of Christ. The UCC allows for doctrinal freedom while relying on the authority of Scripture as the inspired Word of God. We are people who are growing in our faith as we strive to be true disciples of Jesus Christ, loving God and loving our neighbors. We go forth to serve, to care, and to share all in the name of Christ.
